Tourist information
There are many capital cities built on the banks of rivers and in many cases the river runs through the historic centre of the city. But a majestic river such as the „Blue Danube” is more of a rarity. Buda, with the Castle District, is built upon hills.
Several places in Budapest have been classified as UNESCO World Heritage Sites; for example, the Fishermen's Bastion and Matthias Church, Gellért Hill, Andrássy Street, and Heroes' Square.
Standing on the Buda side, you can see Pest as a plain, twice as big as the Buda Side. It is no exaggeration to say that Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. Our tourists have often called Budapest: „Pearl of the Danube” or „Paris of East”.
It is a vibrant city: it throbs with life from morning till night. Visitors coming from other countries get the feeling that there is something interesting happening round every corner.
It would be difficult to find another city where visitors are faced with such a wide choice of transport: bus, tram, trolleybus, train, underground railway, cogwheel railway, funicular, forest railway, horse-and-trap, chair-lift, boat, bicycle and on Margaret Island „bringóhintó” family cycle cars - Budapest has them all!
